Most trail running socks are simply dark colored running socks with no specific "trail" features built-in. The Drymax Trail Running socks are the exception. Trail dirt inside a sock is a bad thing; it can easily cause blisters or rib the skin raw. To help prevent dirt from getting inside Drymax Trail socks, we did not include vents. In addition, the Trail socks' double welted leg has extra padding around the ankle. This extra padding protects the leg and seals the top of the shoe to keep out dirt and debris. Wet feet can be a trail runner's worst enemy and getting wet feet is almost inevitable. The Drymax Trail Running socks' Dual Layer Moisture Elimination System actually removes sweat, sweat vapors and water from the skin through the inner Drymax layer to the outer absorbent layer. The double welt top is made of Drymax fibers to repel water, so when a runner splashes through a creek, the top of the socks stay dry. Drymax Trail Running Socks are a Medium+ Density protective padded sock. Dense padding is used, as opposed to thick padding, as it protects feet without adversely affecting the fit of the shoes. Performed Flawlessly
I purchased these socks for the Oct. 6 Vegas Tough Mudder Event. I broke them in through some 6 mile trail runs at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. They felt great on the trails. They're quite thick but didn't feel heavy at all with shoes on. I use Balega running socks in urban areas but they're not great for trails because they let fine dust in. These socks block all the dust and when I took them off after a six mile run my feet were both dry and clean. They performed flawlessly at the ToughMudder event through ice water, mud, sludge, dirt, rocks etc. Best of all, after a wash, they're good as new. Highly recommended.

Does as advertised
This sock was used for a Tough Mudder race. It did keep the water away from my feet, but it does seem to run a tad large. I have an 11.5 foot, but the x-large was just too big.
Great Trail Running Socks
These Drymax trail running socks are absolutely great. They are sized correctly (I fit the XL perfectly with a 12 shoe size) and are well padded and snug, but don't feel constricting. The padding around the ankle is especially nice, and they do seem to remove moisture from the foot effectively; after wearing them my feet are always dry and comfortable, though I rarely run in extremely wet conditions (I have run in light drizzle with them inside shoes with mesh uppers and still felt dry.) These socks do feel a bit thick (and are) but are extremely comfortable, though I find them to be a tad warm when the ambient temperature is high but they are otherwise so comfortable that I don't mind.
For trail running these socks are hard to beat, and they are just as good at a quick jog around the neighborhood or a 5K. I highly recommend these socks.
