Great Value
Being new to fly fishing I took a chance and purchased the Scientific Anglers Trout Outfit. I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase. After using it a few times I gave it to my son, who was also getting started in the sport. I then bought the Scientific Anglers Pan Fish Outfit because it was a few dollars less than the Trout Outfit and consists of exactly the same rod, reel, line, and DVD. The only difference seems to be the flies that are packaged with each outfit.
The rod seems to be well built and I'm told by friends who have fished for several years that it has a great feel (action?). I kind of have to take their word for it since this is the only rod I've used, and have nothing to base a comparison on.
The reel is very basic, but it performs its function of storing the line very well. There is one thing I have noticed and that is the drag on the reel is adjustable, but not to the same extent as more expensive reels. This hasn't proven to be a problem for me...

Good rod and reel for the price
I bought this for my wife for a trip to the white river. She had fun with it and it seems to be a good size for small trout. It would also work for 1-3 lb bass once we get a chance to do that. Fair quality set for beginners wanting something that is all inclusive.
Nice package
This is a nice package several steps up from most "Beginner Kits" that you find. Mine works well and seems to be of quality construction. Maybe I am still adjusting to a new rod, but it seems to lack a little bit of the finesse of some other equipment I have used. This is a small issue, however. I heartily recommend this package to anyone short of a professional guide or a competitive fisherman: It will far exceed the needs of any beginner or intermediate angler.
